From December 11th to 16th, 2023, in order to further promote the inheritance, innovation, and development of traditional Chinese medicine, it was jointly organized by the Anorectal Professional Committee of the Shanghai Physicians Association, the Anorectal Branch of the Shanghai Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Colorectal and Anorectal Disease Professional Committee of the Shanghai Society of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. It was undertaken by Longhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, and Gu’s Surgical Studio for the National Inheritance of Traditional Chinese Medicine Academic Schools The 10th Gu’s Surgical School Academic Sustainable Development Forum and 2023 Longhua Proctology Week, co organized by the National School Gu’s Surgical Intangible Cultural Heritage Construction Project, was successfully held at Longhua Hospital.

The purpose of this forum is to promote innovative development in the field of anus and intestines, establish a comprehensive information exchange platform, communicate and share the advantages and characteristics of diagnosis and treatment in various regions, and jointly promote the prosperity and development of the discipline of anus and intestines as well as traditional Chinese medicine surgery. The forum continues the traditional model of "one day, one theme" for the previous anorectal week, with themes such as "first-class party building, first-class disciplines", "innovative technology forum for anorectal diseases", "multidisciplinary forum for pelvic floor diseases", "multidisciplinary forum for inflammatory bowel diseases", "forum for infant and young children’s anorectal diseases and popular science", and "nursing forum - anal fistula diseases", conducting in-depth discussions around multiple cutting-edge fields of anorectal science.

Xiao Zhen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, Gao Ju, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Li Yi, Zheng Peiyong, and Liu Ping, Vice Presidents, and Professor Lu Jingen, a renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and lifelong professor at Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, attended the daily forum and delivered speeches. Renowned experts and scholars in the field of proctology from across the country will give online lectures, and the feast will be shared by fellow countrymen from all over the country.

The academic celebration of Professor Lu Jingen’s 50th anniversary of teaching medicine, as the finale of this year’s Longhua Proctology Week, has attracted nearly 500 experts from across the country to gather offline. Academician of the CAS Member, Academician Fan Jia, Dean of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, Professor Xu Jianguang, Director of Science, Education, Culture and Health of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Honorary President of Shanghai Medical Association, President of Shanghai Medical Doctor Association, Professor Hu Hongyi, President of Shanghai Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of Shanghai Health Bureau, Professor Zheng Jin, First level Inspector of Shanghai Education Commission, Deputy Director of Shanghai Medical Association Joint Management and Development Center Professor Gu Xuan, Executive Vice President of Shanghai Association of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Professor Ji Guang, President of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhu Liang, Deputy Secretary and Vice Dean of the Party Committee of Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Professor Shi Qi and Professor Liu Jiaxiang, Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chairman of the Colorectal and Anorectal Disease Professional Committee of China Association of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, and Professor Zeng Xiandong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shenyang Fourth People’s Hospital of China Medical University, Professor Cao Yongqing, Chairman of the Anorectal Disease Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and a renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in Shanghai, as well as Professor Ren Donglin, a renowned doctor from China, Lingnan, and Guangzhou, attended and delivered speeches.

At the meeting, it was announced that three new "Gu’s Surgical Second level Workstations", including Shanghai Weifang Community Health Service Center, Shijiazhuang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital Colorectal Department, and Liaoning University of Chinese Medicine Affiliated Second Hospital Colorectal Department, had been added, and a plaque awarding ceremony was held.

Students and fellow representatives paid tribute to Professor Lu Jingen by offering flowers and calligraphy works, and congratulated him on his 50th anniversary of teaching medicine.

The chairman of this forum and director of the Department of Anorectal Surgery at Longhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wang Chen, expressed the hope to use the annual Longhua Anorectal Week to build a broad platform for peer communication, promote the intersection and collision between the field of anorectal surgery and various disciplines, integrate domestic and foreign peer experiences, learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and help Gu’s surgery flourish and promote significant progress in the field of anorectal surgery.

The Gu surgical school has always focused on strengthening its advantages, highlighting its characteristics, and focusing on its connotations. It not only comprehensively improves the construction level of the school and various branch disciplines, but also actively leads the academic connotation construction in the field of anus and intestines, promoting the sustainable development of traditional Chinese medicine anus and intestines.
